Contract technical writer

Write on the Edge, Inc. is looking for contract technical writers who may be available to help with upcoming projects. Contractors need to be fully equipped to work off-site, although we often have extra space and equipment available at our office.

Contractor qualifications include:

• Intermediate to advanced experience with a word-processing application such as MS Word.
• Intermediate to advanced experience with a layout application such as FrameMaker, including the use of styles, templates, and conditional text.
• Intermediate experience developing online help in HTML and CHM formats using RoboHELP or Dreamweaver.
• Experience developing user manuals (end-user guides, quick start guides, reference guides, etc.) and online help. Must provide samples.
• Aptitude for mastering new material, tools, and processes.
• Ability to do solo work or fit into a team with existing conventions and processes.
• Solid command of good, current technical writing practices in the following areas: audience analysis, customer interaction, document construction, writing and editing, interviewing SMEs, time management.
• Excellent communication skills (in person, phone, and email). Habit of actively pursuing information rather than waiting for it to come along.
• Dedication to reliably meeting all deadlines with top-quality work.
• A positive, can-do attitude and a lot of flexibility to do whatever needs to be done.
